Driving to Disneyland Paris? Get the Bip and Go
Last Updated on December 22, 2023 by Themepark Freak
Are you planning to drive to Disneyland Paris from outside France? Did you know there’s toll roads? Did you also know that there are reserved lanes for traffic that can pay electronically? No? Keep reading and find out what the Bip and Go is and how to order it!
Please note: I have ordered the Bip and Go for myself, I’m not affiliated with nor being paid for this article!
My History Driving Through France
If you haven’t stopped by my About Me page yet, you probably wouldn’t realize that I live in the Netherlands. One of the things that the Dutch absolutely love is to go to France for their holidays. In the summer they love going someplace where there’s sun and in the winter it’s off to the mountains for skiing.
The first time I went to France on holiday, my husband and I avoided the toll road (Péage) as much as we could. I can’t remember how much it cost to get down by Lyon where we were staying, but it ate a bit into our camping budget.
Later, when I went to Disneyland Paris for the first time, we were in a better place financially and decided to splurge and pay for the tolls. We paid with credit card at each toll plaza, however, I later learned that you could pay electronically like with the Sun Pass in Florida.
It hasn’t been until recently that I’ve started going to Disneyland Paris regularly, and in 2024 I plan on expanding out to different theme parks as well. So it just made sense to finally pick up one of the transponders so I can just drive through the reserved lane.
What is the Bip and Go
There’s a few different companies that offer transponders, however, the company I liked the looks of the best is called Bip and Go.
They offer several different subscriptions and there’s literally something to fit each customer’s need. The two options that pertain to most individuals will be the Pay As You Go and the Fixed Price options.
Pay As You Go Subscription
In this Bip and Go option, you’re only paying a service fee for the month you pay the electronic toll. So if you only go to France for a week this year, you’ll pay €1.70. If you go to Spain or Portugal (or opt for Italy as well) you’ll pay €2.50 for the month. Of course your toll(s) will be added to the cost as well!
The activation for France, Spain and Portugal costs €10 while you’ll be paying an extra €4 if you opt for Italy as well.
Fixed Price Subscription
If you’re going to be going to one of these 4 countries often, then the fixed price option may be a better deal! You pay €16 up front which works out to €1.33 a month. If you’re going to be going to Spain or Portugal you will be paying an extra €2.50 for the month that you’re using the toll roads. And of course, if you opt for the Italian tolls that’s also €2.50.
The activation costs are the exact same as with the Pay As You Go subscription.
Paying for Parking With Your Badge
An additional perk of using this electronic badge is being able to use it to pay for parking in more than 1300 different car parks through Europe.
If the car park uses the Bip and Go, there will be a badge with the company logo.
Please make sure that when you’re going to use this option, you grab the paper ticket. In a lot of car parks through Europe, you need that ticket in order to open the door at the exit! Or get back into the car park when you’re ready to leave.
Afterwards, you don’t have to go to the machine to pay. Just get in your car and if your badge is out of it’s sleeve it will be detected! It’s pretty easy.
Who Can Get the Bip and Go?
If you live in one of the following countries, you can order the electronic toll transponder!
- United Kingdom
- Ireland
- Germany
- Austria
- Netherlands
- Luxembourg
- Switzerland
- France
The only thing you need is an account that uses IBAN. Alternatively, if you use American Express you can use that as your payment method to earn miles as you travel!
How Long Does it Take to Arrive?
After I ordered and the payment was confirmed, it took about a week for the product to arrive.
What Did the Package Contain?
The Bip came in a small padded envelope and was contained in a foil pouch. There was also a holder for your windshield.
Additionally, there’s a instruction pamphlet explaining how to use the Bip as well as stick it to your windshield. Instructions are in English, Dutch, German and of course French.
Apparently if you don’t wish to pay for the tolls or parking with your Bip, you can keep it in the foil (also protects it on a hot day).
Do I Recommend the Bip?
We’ll see! My first trip using it will be in October on the way to Disneyland Paris. Stay tuned for the Bip and Go honest review.
